Globalization Seminar @ Davidson

Musings from Wildcats

Using WordPress to Manage Websites

For your case study, you will be writing posts on the seminar website, but if you want, you can also build a website for your case studies. Below are some handouts and videos to get you started using WordPress. The first thing you should do is change the default password that was sent to you by email and add other user information (such as your name).

Here are other instructions on using WordPress:

Webcast Playlist (8 videos, about 3-5 minutes each).

Themes:
As a Davidson student, you have access to many professional WordPress themes for free. You can browse themes from three different services: StudioPress, Organic Themes, or Themify. StudioPress is probably the easiest one to manage, while Themify allows for the most customization (without writing code). There are also many free WordPress templates that you can use, but I would take advantage of free access to premium WordPress themes.

In addition to myself, Davidson also has a staff of ‘media tutors’ that can help you with WordPress issues. They are located at the Connolly Media Lab in the Chambers South Basement from 7-10pm, Sunday-Thursday. ITS also sponsors a Digital Drop-In hour every Friday from 1:30-2:30 in Studio D.

ANT 341 examines recent theories of globalization from an anthropological perspective, with an emphasis on the transnational political, economic, and cultural structures that are transforming local societies throughout the world. Topics include transnational religions, popular culture, and global capitalism. Special attention is devoted to debates regarding power and cultural imperialism, popular culture, the impact of science and technology transfer, and diaspora ethnicity.
