In 2011, Billboard held it’s first K Pop Masters concert at the MGM Grand that featured 4Minute, BEAST, Sistar, G.NA, Brown Eyed Girls, MBLAQ, SHINee and TVXQ.The concert was a huge hit, they help two shows, one Novemver 25th and the other November 26th. The event was a collaboration with MGM Grand and Billboard Korea which just recently in the past few years created a K Pop top 100. When asked why they chose to support K Pop, MGM simply stated it was one of the fastest growing music genres in terms of fan base and popularity. Surfing through YouTube, there are a number of great K Pop artists but only the best of the best made it to MGM Grand for the concert. The buzz around this event was large thanks to good publicity and the marketing slogan “History Will Be Made” that MGM employed. Another name the media gave the event was “K Pop Masters Day” in honor of the top performers that would be gracing the stage. Among those groups were seven year veterans DBSK who rounded out the show with the last performance. Interestingly enough, the highly popular dance team JabbaWockeeZ opened for the concert. Needless to say, history was indeed made on that day and K Pop just might have earned a few more fans.
