In Lesotho, countless families were displaced due to the Lesotho Highlands Water Project. Filled with false promises, they were led to believe that they would be completely compensated for their land and homes but they were often relocated to areas that were inferior to their original homes. Through deception, these people who relied on their farms to support their families were given new land that had poor soil so they were unable to produce enough food to feed their families. While the LHWP does provide needed jobs, it still negatively impacts more people by destroying their towns and homes. The number of jobs created does not offset the farmers that are forced to give up their land and move into less desirable living situations. In this video, a real family describes the differences between their old living situation in which they often produced a surplus of food and their current situation where they can barely make ends meet and often do not produce enough food to survive. Their home is also in considerably worse shape and their requests for repairs are ignored.
