Leslie Sklair explains an interesting revelation regarding to the transformation of culture-ideology through globalization in the 20th century. In today’s global society, advertising has been used to define cultural phenomena. In its overall expidation through mass media, advertisment has allowed people see what is deemed desirable at a much quicker pace, thus helping to perpetuate consumerism through capitalism. People consume what is believed to be desirable, and in the global market, companies use these principals to persuade people to reach ultimate satisfaction and elite status through the purchasing of certain products. In my opinion, the development of the internet, moreover companies such as Amazon, truly help carry this system. Amazon is portrayed as a do-it-all online marketplace in which consumers worldwide can seek to shop purchase goods in a speedy process based on their demand. In addition it has helped revolutionize consumer culture being accessible without having to leave the conforts of one’s own living room. Many individual companies took after its model and because of it, the ever so infamous cyber monday was born as an alternative to black friday.
